Question

Video / Cam

I have a fully updated PacBook Pro and have not been able to get the Cam to come on in AC. It works fine in many other applications. IS there a setting to get it to turn on the cam besides sharing the video?

Thank you,

Ken

    Hi.

We finally got an answer to the problem with our Logitech web cam! I'd gone through tech support, and that didn't help. (One tip from them was to make sure you close all applications that might also use webcam, like instant message -- but since we had none open, that wasn't our problem. But in a sense it was. Read on...)

Finally got the answer from one of the presenters of the Getting Started with Acrobat Connect online seminars. She also has a Logitech web cam. Here's the deal: Logitech has a Quick Capture feature...a little window that shows you what the camera is seeing. So long as that's open, you can't see the camera in Connect. Once I clicked this off in the Logitech tool bar...bingo! Picture appears in Connect camera pod. Whew!

Maybe this will apply to some of you? If your web cam or video cam has a similar window which shows you the image the camera sees, click it off. Will be interested in hearing if this works.

    Steve,

You should see the option in the Select camera menu for your fire wire camera after you plug it in. We have used our Cannon DV camera connected to a laptop via-fire wire with great success in the past. Just be sure that the camera is plugged in and recognized before starting Connect.

    Hi Jorma@RealEyes,

I can confirm that I can see one option in the Select Camera... menu, labelled as "Microsift DV Camera and VCR".
However, when activated, this produces a black screen - even though the camera is working and other applications can see it properly. It's just Adobe Connect that can't seem to display it.

    Any thoughts any one, please?

You are thinking of the correct menu, just try reselecting the camera from the drop down menu, not just the one selected, this seems to be the key, and then stop sharing the camera, then start sharing your camera again. That usually fixes it.

With the screen sharing issue, I have only seen a problem with older computers and lesser graphics cards. The difference of permission levels in the room (Host, Presenter, or Participant) shouldn't have made a difference. You may also try checking the room bandwidth in the Meeting menu, and setting that to LAN or Cable/DSL. If it is set on modem, then you will get choppy images that are hard to follow.

Thank you! I will try your suggestions. I'll keep you posted. Again, many thanks.

Hi All! I have a question about whether Adobe Connect can accept DV input for the camera pod?

Specifically, I have a Sony Anycast Station, and I can use a FireWire cable to connect the Anycast's DV ouput to a laptop (mini-dv input) running Adobe Connect. I am unable to get Connect to recognise or play(share?) the video feed.
Other laptop applications (windows movie maker and winDVD Creator) are able to see the DV input fine.

Is Connect only able to play webcam-type video feeds?

There are two problems here, as to Solar, with Macs you need to just go into the Meeting>Select Camera wizard, and just start selecting the different camera options (on my I-mac, I have to use the USB camera and not the Built in camera driver, don't know why). Just keep trying the different drivers and you will find the one that works.

    Successf,

You may just need to go back into the Select camera wizard, reselect the camera from the drop down menu and then stop and restart the camera pod. This works for me when working with external cams on PCs.

    Thanks.

Hmm. I don't remember a camera "wizard", I'll have to look at this again. We have tried the Select Camera from the top menu, but the only name that appears in the list is our camera, nothing else. (If I'm not quite understanding what you said, would you please let me know?)

By "stop and restart the camera pod" do you mean the "sharing camera"? (Going by memory, not able to test at the moment.)

Since I started this topic, we tried it on another computer with the same results. Also, I forgot to mention, the other problem we've had is when we try sharing our desktop from either computer. We just get a flickering mess. Both have tested being "host" and that variable didn't make a difference.

I guess I'll try Adobe support, but past experience prior to any purchase has been poor. They just keep saying that "We can't help you until you buy the product" to which we say "Well, that fine. But keep in mind that we won't buy the product unless we know it will actually work for us." (Only once did we get passed on to someone who'd help.) Certainly with Connect we're not going to buy it if we can't fix these problems.

Thanks again for your reply! Please do let me know if I didn't understand your answer. Wouldn't be the first time I was a bit dense.

I think we're having the same problem.

We are using Logitech Quick Cam Communicate STX. It's working fine, no problem.

We setup a hosted trial of Connect. Installed the Add-on, too, for both the Host and the Participant. When we try to share the webcam in Connect, nothing. (So far, we are just trying to show the Host's webcam.) Don't see anything, just the default icon where the video should appear.

We have checked Logitech for any driver updates, etc. Also ck'd Toshiba (laptop we're using). Nothing new. OS is Vista.

    Suggestions very much appreciated.
