Webcam on Linux computer with Zorin (aka Ubuntu) operating system not working

I've been trying to get my computer working for school, and my webcam (cheese) does not allow others in the room to see me.  I'm VERY computer illiterate and could use some help getting my webcam to work.  Please advise.
