Hi ,
I've merged your two posts toether into one thread and moved it from the Substance Designer forum to the Substance Painter forum.
SBSAR is an archive format for SBS files which are procedural materials from Substance Designer. The difference being that SBS allows access to the Substance Designer Graph and SBSAR only allows access to parameters that the designer of the material chose to expose to the user. They can then be used by software (including Substance Painter) to apply/paint them onto models.

Neither SBS or SBSAR are designed to export texture maps painted onto a model in Substance Painter. For that the formats are those which appear in the Export dialogue.

You're absolutely right - I hadn't even realised it was there in the export list (old habits die hard 🙂 ).

So I checked the release notes and the ability to export in sbsar format was added in Version 8.2. Your screenshot shows you are using v8.1
