Question

detail capture?

I’m a newcomer to 3D scanning and printing, currently using the MIRACO as my first scanner. My goal is to accurately capture details such as skin folds, wrinkles, and clay textures when scanning sculptures, body casts, and people. Despite having the settings on “advanced,” I’m experiencing notable detail loss, with the Miraco seemingly smoothing over these intricate features.

I’m seeking advice on optimizing settings or learning any tricks to enhance detail capture with the Miraco, especially considering that my sculptures range from life-size figures/busts to 50% life size. Can I use Substance 3D Painter?

Your guidance is highly appreciated!

Hi @balance@,

Thanks for the message.

This is an interesting, but also very specific topic. Substance 3D Painter is usually made to create texture for 3D models. Considering you're scanning 3D models, the textures are already existing.

You could use the application to add specific details, build new maps or things like that, but when it comes to increasing the current quality of already existing textures, I'm unsure whether it will be the best fit.

Basic filters like "Sharpen", "Contrast", etc. could be a start, but I can't tell how far you could bring the textures.

Hopefully, each apps from the Creative Cloud has a trial version, so feel free to try it first.
