Height and Normal maps?

I see that on the Painter export there will be a height map, but i think blender [and unity at least] uses Normal map?

How do i convert the Height map to Normal map in painter?

Also is the map actually Height+Normal?

Hi @BaidDSB-3D,

Substance 3D Painter can export a lot of maps trough the Output templates. For Blender, I'd advise you to use the Blender (Principled BSDF) obviously. The preset will have a Normal map, but also a Displacement map (which is basically the same thing as a Height map).

When you import your textures in Blender, you can use both the Normal map and the Height map. It's upon you to choose which map you'll need for your project.

When you work inside Substance 3D Painter, most of the time you'll work with the "Height", but this "Height" will be added to the normal at the export, so no worries.

Best regards,

If you set your export to use a Converted Normal Map (see converted maps in the Export set up dialogue) in Open GL format then it will be a normal map including the height information in the right format for Blender.
