I need help with getting the correct axis to apply alpha brush

Hello community.

 

I'm fairly new to SubPainter, Im trying to apply an alpha decal on the practise spehere. But I cannot figure out how to get the correct axis. The brush is going the incorrect axis, Ive tried X Y Z, but getting non desired result, someone please help me.

The default matball is tilted so the symmetry around the X ,Y or Z axis does not fit the ball.

You could do one of two things.

 

Open the matball model in a 3D application and move it so that the front surface is at 90 degrees to the Z axis.

or

The way that ball is unwrapped with the surface you are wanting to paint being straight in the UV map, forget symmetry and apply the patterns to the shape by using brush spacing and drawing direct on the UV view.

Thanks for the question.

 

The tree axis are available under the symmetry parameters.

 

 

I'd advise you to display the axis to help you visualize where the symmetry should paint. You can also move the axis in the scene, but not rotate it. Therefore, if the model has a particular angle, it can become tedious to use the symmetry.

Hello Cyril, thank you for your reply. 

 

I followed your settings but cannot use it, the direction of the axis is going wrong.

 

I followed a tutorial how to use radial symmetry, and this video looks correctly applied

But I dont understand why, when I try it, the brush (alpha)  wont wrap correctly around the axis.

I tried Z Y X, and it wont wrap around the sphere rim as the red arrow direction.
