Linked UDIM like in Mari

In Mari you can select a UDIM tile and link it to another, so it duplicates all you do from one tile to the other.
Is there a way to do something like this in Painter?

Hi @ChAoS_O,

 

In Substance 3D Painter, the common workflows are a bit different and there isn't a proper way of linking two UDIM together.

 

Usually, we'll work with Anchor Points, or Layer Instancing to work on several UV Tiles with a non-destructive workflow.

 

With that being said, if you wish to share what exactly you're trying to achieve, I could give you my potential workflow inside Substance Painter to make it.

Hey! 🙂

The UDIMs for my 3D model are separated to Left, Center and Right. The UV layout for left and right often is the same but in different tiles. In Mari i usually paint a base material with linked UVs and sometimes break the linking for asymmetrical details and link the tiles again to continue on symmetrical details.

This is maybe what you're already doing, but I'd make sure to start the project with the UV Tile workflow on. This way, I'd be able to paint across UV tiles, and add a base material on all the UDIMs with only one layer.

 

 

 

Then, and considering I can now work on all my UDIMs at once, I'd simply paint with the Symmetry on in order to have the same result on the Left and the Right tile, and turning it off when I want to add unique details.

This is a pretty common workflow, but it should work for what I know about your project.

 

As said, you could also work with Anchor Points, which can really ease the workflow.
