Question

Linked UDIM like in Mari

In Mari you can select a UDIM tile and link it to another, so it duplicates all you do from one tile to the other.
Is there a way to do something like this in Painter?

Hi @ChAoS_O,

In Substance 3D Painter, the common workflows are a bit different and there isn't a proper way of linking two UDIM together.

Usually, we'll work with Anchor Points, or Layer Instancing to work on several UV Tiles with a non-destructive workflow.

With that being said, if you wish to share what exactly you're trying to achieve, I could give you my potential workflow inside Substance Painter to make it.

Best regards,

Hey! 🙂

The UDIMs for my 3D model are separated to Left, Center and Right. The UV layout for left and right often is the same but in different tiles. In Mari i usually paint a base material with linked UVs and sometimes break the linking for asymmetrical details and link the tiles again to continue on symmetrical details.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.

I already use the tile workflow and know symmetry. Symmetry does not work if some parts are not symmetrical in the 3D space from what i figured out. Or am i missing some options?
Im not sure about the anchor points.
Is there a way to copy paste from one tile to another?
To demonstrate my problem i can show a screenshot of a another project(no left, right, center but same issue).
Lets say i have multiple tiles for duplicated objects like benches in a diner so they are not symmetrical in 3D space. And want to paint one base texture and copy it to the other objects and only alter some details so they dont look exactly the same.

Thanks

First of all, is this a Star Wars reference? I love it!

For the base texture, no need to copy. If you're working with the paint across UV tile workflow, adding a single material will apply it on the entire model. You can then use a mask to paint only the parts where you want the material to show up.

For the details, you can paint those manually on top of the base material, but I'd personally advise you to also use smart masks/materials in order to have interesting procedural details.
