Need Help Converting Photoshop Layer to match in Substance Blending Modes

Since Adobe doesn't want to make it so we can export textures into Photoshop using "Paint Across UDIMs"

I started to export the masks one by one, copying the hexdec color and making the layers in Photoshop.
But when I get to a layer that uses Overlay in substance it doesn't function the way Overlay functions in Photoshop and wondering if there is any trick that can be done to get the correct Blending in Photoshop to match the texture I am exporting.

Thank you so much for any ideas and Adobe if you could I would be so grateful if you could make exporting to Photoshop work across UDIM style Substance Painter files.

Here is what the texture looks like from Substance.

Here is that layer's setting in Substance

Here is how it looks in Photoshop as Overlay means something entirely different between the programs and how they display.

As you can see the Photoshop Layer is as you would except a since the color is light displaying as it should be in Substance Painter it makes it dark and the desired effect.

Any Ideas?

Thanks.

Hello @Metal2Mesh,

I'm not aware of any differences between the Photoshop's overlay and Painter's overlay. Both combine the multiply and screen blending mode to darken/lighten the image.

With that being said, I'm glad you found a workaround!

For the PSD export feature, as you already said it's unfortunately not currently working with UV Tile Workflow. Trust me, we are eager to make it work no matter what workflow is being used, but if this isn't already the case, that's because it isn't as easy to implement as it sounds.

Please be patient, improving the transition between the Adobe apps is obviously frequently talked about.

Best regards,

Hi Cyril,

Thank you for the response on that you guys are trying, I do appreciate that.

As for the exporting PSD from Substance it uses a Custom RGB with 2.20 Gamma and 65000K light.
While PS was using an Adobe 1998 RGB, and when copying layers over from the Substance
I was able to just use the custom RGB mentioned above and convert my PSD so it helped to make it.

Here is a sample of what I was able to accomplish.
Exported Texture from Substance

The PSD creation from handstakenly copying masks and layers etc. (missing the stencils)

Now just need to figure out why the panel lines are washed out/faded.
But I am making progress.

Thanks again,
Tim

I just made single UDIM and painted it with the materials and will use that to work out in photoshop, i guess i figured a work around.

It's using "custom RGB" profile for those who experience a simular need to make PSD export or a paint kit when you painted across UDIMS and adobe doesn't want to impliment that feature like it has for the Legacy.

I mean come on Adobe make that function work.
Please show me Adobe cares about helping us customers.
