Question

Normal maps

When I create my normal maps I see there are 2. One is just a normal map and the other called a global normal. I can see the detail in the global normal, but the global normal only shows details in the centre  and then fades to a blurred look.

The Normal map just called 'Normal' is the same colour but with no details. Should this map show details?

If so, why is it blank and how do I get the details into this map?

Hi @toonycards1,

I guess you're mentioning the World Space Normals. To quote the documentation : "The World Space normals baker allows to save the mesh normal, tangent and binormals into a texture."

To make it simple, it saves the orientation of the mesh. It is very useful for Smart Masks, Smart Materials, etc. in order to add localized details.

The normal map is the one used to add "details" to your mesh. However, it needs a high poly in order to work properly. The details come from the differences between the LP and the HP. Therefore, if there's no High Poly, there are also no details to add.
