Question

Steam Substance painter 2024 does not update to 2025 even though i recently purchased it

I have recently purchased Substance Painter 2024 perpetual on Steam , i imagined i would be getting a year of updates like any regular software you buy, but now i see Substance Painter 2025 has released on Steam and my version is still 2024.
This should not be the way this works , if you get a year of updates , this should include a free upgrade to the newer version.
If you purchased 2024 the day before 2025 dropped this would litterally feel like a scam.

Is there a way to upgrade SP 2024 to SP 2025 without having to purchase it again after 3 months ?

Hi @bruno22517405ch72,

Our steam licenses works just as any game would work. You don't litteraly have a year of updates, you have access to all the updates of the version. If you bought Substance Painter 2024, you'll have all the updates of 2024.  Substance Painter 2025 is a new version, not related with the 2024 one.

I agree buying a steam license at the end of the year isn't a good move, but the same thing goes for all products when we're close to the launch of a new one.

That being said, depending on how many hours you spent on the application, you can still ask Steam for a refund.

Best regards,

Hi Cyril,

First of all, thank you for your reply , you speak facts and i appreciate it. You don't make the rules.

As a consumer i do have opinions on this. There should not be a "bad time" to buy software , that's why other companies give you a year of free updates including upgrading to new versions if these happen to release within the year. This gives the consumer the feeling they are getting full value for their purchase.

I would personally not compare a 50 euro game to 200 euro software license wise, it's better to look at what other competitors do to satisfy their customers.
Refund wise it's also very normal to use software for many more hours (+2 hours) before realising you need a refund.

Just know you are punishing your honest paying customers with these kind of rules.

Again, i understand you do not make these rules, so i'm not blaming you for any of this.

Kind regards,

Bruno
