Question

Substance 3D Painter 2025 (Steam) only 11 months of support?

I'm waiting to purchase the Substance Painter Steam version of 2025. It'll be the end of January and still nowhere to be found. I don't want to buy the 2024 version which will no longer be updated. Will there be any discount for the 2025 version if there will be only 11 months or less of support instead of a year or will the update period cover 12 months from the release date?

Hi @Jirdus,

Thank you for the question.

I understand the logic, but this isn't really how it works (and never has been). When you're buying a license on Steam, you're buying a life time software and the updates from the year of purchase.

For now, we didn't update Substance 3D Painter in 2025, therefore we haven't release a new Steam license. Those licenses have always been available at the same time we're launching the first major update of the year, and it will be the same for 2025.

Thank you for the clarification, but I got that impression directly from your reply in another thread from 16.1., where you wrote "If you're considering buying a steam license, I advise you to wait for the 2025 version, otherwise you won't have access to any update.". So is there no reason to wait to buy? If I purchase Substance 3D Painter 2024 on Steam now, will I receive updates until the end of 2025?

"So is there no reason to wait to buy?"
Yes there is ! I apologize, saying "you're buying updates from the year of purchase" was misleading. Only the 2025 version will have the 2025 updates. Therefore, the 2024 version only has the 2024 updates even if you buy it right now.
