Question

Substance Painter is same slow in i9-13900K+RTX3070Ti like in i7-4790K+970GTX

Hi,

I have a PC: i9-13900K+RTX3070Ti+64GB DDR5 and my Substance Painter is same slow and laggy than in my 8 years old PC: i7-4790K+970GTX+32GB DDR3.

I have version 9 (2585), I think the baking is faster, but the average performance, changing layers, viewport usage, many seconds long lags, etc is exactly the same than in my old pc. So I do not feel too much difference. Is this normal?

Hi @Andor31270627z7wu,

Performances are always a tricky subject, because many different things will have an impact. Basically yes, a better configuration should help running Substance 3D Painter smoother, but I advise you to check this page from our documentation, which details a lot of the various performance issues Substance Painter may encounter.

What type of project are you working on? How many UDIM? How many polygons your object has? Would you mind sending your log (Help > Export log...), so I can take a deeper look?

Let me know,

Hi,

I did at the moment just a simple gun with only 1 material, using 2k texture view size. If I do anything, the progress bar down works almost the same slowly as in my old PC.

But I worked on more complex Substance files, honestly, I do not feel much more general performance speed difference. Even the speed of the final texture exporting is similar.

I am using Win11, because of the new CPU architecture.

I am working with Unreal Engine (I used Unreal on about 4 different PCs) (the shader computing and the rendering is very fast compared with my other PCs in this i9-13900 PC) but everything is almost also the same laggy in Unreal.

I have an SSD with 6000mb speed before I had an SSD with 500mb speed, but I do not see too much difference launching Photoshop or Maya. In Maya, during modeling I do not feel any speed difference compared with my 8 years old PC, same laggy many things, and I see the CPU usage is only 1%...

In Maya I rendered the same scene, in this case I noticed the difference: the rendering speed is 6times faster, the i9-13900 PC rendered it for 4min, the 8 years old PC rendered it for 24min.

I think the problem is not with the PC components, but the softwares all are really unoptimized.
