Hello folks,

Could anyone advise on the export set up for exporting textures from substance painter to Iray for 3 ds Max. I am thinking it may well be the pbr metallic roughness one but not sure.

Thanks

Raymond.

Hi @raymonda71404098,

PBR maps will perfectly work for Iray. In fact, if you don't wish to send your assets/textures back to 3DS MAX, the native rendering window (F10) of Substance 3D Painter also uses Iray.

Hello Cyril,
Yes, I often use Iray from within Substance
Painter as I find it a superb render engine. but find it is hamstrung
within Painter so I have earlier today subscribed to the Iray for 3 DS Max
plugin. And now have the ability to add lights/ rotate the model
independent of the environment ect just far more flexibility. Have started
using it just now but if I export from painter using the default pbr
exporter when I plug the maps into pbr material slot in 3 ds max they do
not have any effect on the model [ when rendering ] although they show in
the viewport. but when I go to render the model it stays plain white ie no
materials. Could you advise.

Thanks for the clarification and you're perfectly right, you'll have way more flexibility with 3DS max's Plug-in.

Unfortunately, I am really not an expert with Iray's Plug-in or 3DS max. I know Iray is perfectly able to read PBR maps (because that's what he does in Substance 3D Painter), but I think you'll have to see with Autodesk or Nvidia to have your answer.

With that being said, if someone seing that thread has the answer, please let us know.
