Question

Why are my masks rotating?

When I edit a mask in the dirt folder, my scratch mask from a different folder rotates. What's causing this? Both are painted masks - not procedural or textures.

Also, can I rotate a paint mask as a quick fix?

Hi @TacosAndBourbon,

Thank you for the message.

Hmm it's hard to tell what's happening... Which version of Painter are you using? Do you have any anchor point? Can you share the project?

Let me know.

  • This was on Substance Painter 11.0.3
  • Several anchor points in the project - one in the layer stack I was painting on (but not in the paint effect that was being used) and none in the affected layer that was rotating paint orientation
  • All achor points are referencing height. The dirt I was painting out was referencing a height anchor to fill cavities, the affected layer was exposed metal with a subtle height applied. Could be height related?

I'm not too worried about it anymore. The project was rotating masks I didn't want rotated, exporting texturing maps with the rotated masks, and not undoing when I ctrl+z. But it corrected itself when I isolated the stack in mask view - now I'm no longer bugged.

Hmmm thank you for details. That's a bit unusual, we'll keep an eye on it.

I should have mentioned, selecting undo will remove the paint strokes in the dirt mask (selected) but the rotated scratch mask stays rotated.
