Managing and distributing signed customer service agreements as fillable PDFs in Acrobat?

Hi everyone,

I run a local trade service business here in Boise, and we are currently trying to streamline our digital paperwork workflow for our field technicians.

Right now, we create service estimates and agreements, save them as PDFs, and need a reliable way for customers to review and sign them on mobile devices before we start any repair work.

I know Acrobat has form creation and signing tools, but I am running into a few bottlenecks with layout consistency when technicians open them on different tablets in the field. Does anyone have a recommended setup or best practice for keeping fillable PDF forms stable across iOS and Android devices?

    You need a customer agreement that keeps its field placement intact on different tablets and can be reviewed, signed, and tracked reliably in the field. Is that correct? Assuming the form is authored in the current Acrobat desktop app and completed in the current Acrobat mobile app or Acrobat Sign browser experience on iOS and Android.


    Suggestions and recommendations:

    1. The form is an XFA (LiveCycle) form, not a standard AcroForm. XFA does not open properly on mobile or in most non-Adobe viewers, which is the classic cause of forms that look fine on desktop but break on tablets.

      Rebuild it in Acrobat using Prepare a Form, which produces a standard AcroForm that renders on iOS and Android.

    2. Fonts. If a field uses a non-standard font that is not embedded, the device substitutes another font and the layout shifts. Stick to the standard fonts (Arial/Helvetica, Times, Courier) or fully embed any brand font, and set fields to a fixed font size rather than "Auto," which resizes text per device.

    3. The viewer. The built-in previewers (Apple Files/Mail, Samsung, browsers) often do not render form fields or saved data correctly. Standardise your techs and customers on the free Adobe Acrobat Reader mobile app, and add a one-line "please open in Adobe Acrobat Reader" note on the form.


    Please note that XFA forms created with LiveCycle Designer are not supported on Acrobat mobile. Form structure should therefore be created and corrected on the desktop; mobile does not support adding, removing, or restructuring Acroform fields.     For customers signing agreements on their own devices, the most reliable route is E-Sign > Request e-signatures (Acrobat Sign). The customer taps an emailed link and signs in on any mobile browser, no app or account needed, and you get a certified copy plus an audit trail, which matters for work authorisations. Quick self-signing on your tech's own tablet can use Fill & Sign in the Reader app for free, but requesting e-signatures beyond two per 30 days needs a paid Acrobat plan (Standard or Pro).
