Question

Can't start Render-Engine

Hi everyone,

I have just updated Dimensions and now I get an error message that the render engine can no longer be started. I have tried everything and checked all the settings on my graphics card (RTX4060).

Unfortunately, I can't find anything in the forum.

Maybe someone can help.

Best regards.

Hi, this issue usually appears after a Dimensions update when the GPU driver, render engine, or cache conflicts with the new version. Since you’re using an RTX 4060, try the following steps in order (these solve the problem for most users):

  1. Update or clean-reinstall your NVIDIA driver
Download the latest driver directly from NVIDIA (not via Windows Update). During installation, choose Custom → Perform a clean installation.

  2. Reset Dimensions preferences
Close Dimensions, then delete or rename the Dimensions preferences/cache folder (Dimensions will recreate it on launch). Corrupted cache files after an update often cause the render engine to fail.

  3. Switch the render engine manually
Open Dimensions → Preferences → Render, and temporarily switch from GPU to CPU (or vice versa). Restart the app, then switch back to GPU rendering.

  4. Check GPU selection in NVIDIA Control Panel
Go to NVIDIA Control Panel → Manage 3D settings → Program Settings, add Dimensions, and force it to use the High-performance NVIDIA processor.

  5. Disable overlays and background apps
Turn off GeForce Experience overlay, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner, or similar tools—they can prevent the render engine from starting.

  6. Verify system requirements & rollback if needed
If the issue started immediately after updating Dimensions, the update may have a compatibility bug. Rolling back to the previous version (if possible) often fixes it until a patch is released.

If none of this works, I recommend posting your Dimensions version number, exact error message, OS version, and driver version—that will help pinpoint whether this is a known bug with the latest update.

I'm also having the same problem. It occurs when I add decals and after moments of editing the program needs to close

I searched far & wide to fix this issue, there was one user deep in these forums that posted the fix.

please remove the accents from the users name, this is done when you initially start up windows for the first time. In my case I did a full reset of the users comp, removed the accents from the users name and everything functioned as normal.

I use the same GPU with any issues on Win 11. I use Gaming Driver not standard. Try to update driver. Dimension on first lunch will ask to turn on GPU Render. It is located in Render View Settings also,

I currently have the Nvidia Studio driver 561.09 installed. Which is the gaming driver? Can the CPU be a problem, I have an Intel processor. But there were never any problems before.

You need to download Game Experience. GeForce Game Ready Driver | 536.40 | Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11 | NVIDIA

Hope this will solve your problem.
