Create Custom 3d objects

I am looking to create custom boxes that I can manipulate all the dimensions to suit. Can anyone point me in the correct direction of a good tutorial?

The main purpose is to show clients how their packaging will look like in 3D. it would involve having seperate objects, ie box base and a box lid, showing all the artwork on all the sides.
