Image overlays not transparent.

How do you set something to be transparent instead of a color? I need an image over a gap in my model. So I made a new flat plane model over the gap and want it to be transparent so the logo goes over the hole. However, the new plane over the gap appears white and I can't seem to make it go transparent.
