Imported multi-part OBJ file opens as one unit/part

Why / how, when importing a multi-part obj file created with Strata 3D 8.0 the file imports as one unit and cannot be separated or moved as individual element. Why is this? How can I create a multipart obj file?

open the Obj file in Photoshop and cut it into different parts then export that as a wavefront | Obj then do the Dimension step
