Remove unused assets on save

Hello everyone! I want to know what the "Remove unused assets on save" option, which is located in the "Edit-Preferences" menu, is for. I need an example of use for a test. Thanks for the help!

This is an old preference from when Dimension's beta that we forgot to take out. We used to allow you to have materials in the document that weren't actually in use in the scene and this was a cleanup preference to remove them. Since the removal of the material panel and this functionality this preference is no longer needed and will be removed.
