Rendering an engraved object doesn't work

Hi everyone,

I created a simple 3d shape in Blender with text engraved into it (using the boolean modifier). When I import the obj file into dimension, the preview doesn't show the engraved text. I thought If I tried to render it, the engraved text might show, but it renders extruded instead of engraved. Is there any way to fix this?

In addition, if applying the modifiers does not resolve the problem, try also applying the scale (Ctrl +A). Finally you may need to use the tools to simplify the mesh - depending on what Ngons the Boolean modifier has left.

I applied the modifier, and simplified the mesh... It still ends up rendering the same.

I also tried using Knife Project instead which gives a much cleaner mesh, but it has similar results...

In the end, I just chose to take the render into Photoshop and made it look engraved myself

    Thanks for the help!

interesting, have you tried using a different material | colour inside the groves?

The grooves don't even show up in Dimension when I import the object (it shows a smooth surface with a faint outline of the engraved design), but shows up in other applications

to me it looks like Dimension is show both the meshs

p.s, if this is the new 2.8 build then I would assume some bugs and send the file to them for tests

have you checked the Obj from Blender does in fact have the text on it?

try opening it in Photoshop, 3D Paint or any other 3D reader

    It's definitely engraved. :/

    Tried rendering it again:
