Severe performance degradation with Dimension 3.0+

Hi all

I create complex scenes in dimension and have noticed severe lag and performance issues in dimension 3.1 vs older versions. Scenes are now no longer workable due to lag. I have a 2019 macbook pro designed with more than enough RAM, CPU and graphics capabilities and have great performance on 2.0+ Dimension. I also cannot open my newer files in older versions of dimension.

Is there a fix for this or is anyone else experiencing performance degradation?

yes that should be more than able... assuming you mean 32G of ram 😉

I9 are known to run hot, especially Mac ones... is it possible your system needs a cooler room? anyway as I said the extra load is small and not an issue on my Windows systems

as for saves I'm in the same boat because I run an older dimension build on my work laptop to keep the 3 adjustment tools... I find the new all-in-one tool a pain to use so if a file needs to be transfered to my Ryzen for the extra power I file > save as and give it a new name so my original isn't buggered up

yes the new materials are an extra drag on the system Cpu but it has not been a major issue for me... I assume you have the i5 model which means the Cpu is your bottleneck and upgrading is really the only fix, so sorry

you are correct that newer files will not open in older builds of Dimension... this is by design and automattic when you open | save an older Dn file so the work around is to 'save as' instead

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated.

I have an i9 with 32 mb of ram and AMD Radeon Pro Vega 16 4gb - so should be ore than efficient enough.

I have tried to save as and it does not give me the option to save to an alternate version of dimension unless you are aware of another method.

Thanks.
