unable to move objects to 3D platform in Dimension.

I'm new to playing with 3D so forgive my imporper terms.  I have watched serveral Dimension vidoes and they all show a window with an X and a grid.  I don't see that.  I looked to see if I had turned it off and didn't know it but could find nothing.
