Dreamweaver CS5 will not open

I just downloaded Adobe CS5 Design Premium and installed. Every application opens without problem except Dreamweaver which will not open at all. I tried installing again and that didn't work. I even tried removing all of my preference files, old Application Support files and even Library Application Support files. Uninstalled CS4 and CS5 and installed a fresh copy of CS5.

Dreamweaver CS5 will not open. It gets to just before the splash screen and stops. It's not hanging either, I can click the dock and quit the app without a force quit. It appears that the open sequence is missing something.

Mac OS X 10.6.3

Everyone is saying the update works but you never know, some may have problems finding it. I had this problem until minutes ago until I too did the update for CS5, go here:

    http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html#dwcs51104

If you are on Lion and are using CS5 (not 5.5) don't waste your time with permissions and preferences, this does it!

Same issue as many above. MacBook - Dreamweaver wouldn't open.

I was using the trial version, and wanted to enter my serial number for the paid version. 2 hours to technical support later and I can now open it.

I had to uninstall DW, then re-install it. I still couldn't open it. I don't use FireVault, so that was already switched off. I am set up as an administrator, so that wasn't the problem either.

It turns out I had a corrupt configuration file and had to change the name. So by going into Applications > Dreamweaver >US_en > Configuration - I then changed the name to Configuration.old - then went back and launched DW and it works properly now.

Hello I am having problems opening Dreamweaver CS5.I am using Windows Vista 64 bit.

Joe9inety - Genius - worked for me. Dreamweaver CS5 was not loading, osX 10.5.8, filevault off. Deleted users/#me#/library/application  users/#me#/library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs4 and renamed it back to dreamweaver cs5. Works brilliantly. Finally, after many frustrated hours...

July 1, 2010. Still can't open Dreamweaver CS5 on my mac.  Any ETA on a fix?  Could really use this software this summer....

    July 9, 2010

I submitted a bug report and surprisingly got an answer about 5 hours later! I quote:

Yes this is something which we are working on to fix in an update.

No ETA, but at least they're working on it.

That's why you should always submit a bug report if you find what you think is a genuine bug. The forums are not regularly monitored by Adobe employees, but the bug report form goes directly to the people who matter.

From what I have heard privately, the fix should be available fairly soon. Adobe has been closed for the past week (extended July 4 holiday), but I'm sure the engineers will be back checking the fix on Monday.

Here’s how I fixed the problem:

    1. First quit Dreamweaver CS5 if you have in launched (or kinda launched)
    2. Open Finder and navigation to: Macintosh hd/users//library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs5/en-US/
    3. Here you will find the folder “configuration” … Rename this folder to ‘configurationOld’ and restart Dreamweaver

Yeah well, that's the same solution that I posted some time ago, but there's a better* solution:

    1. quit Dreamweaver if still "running" (or something like that..)

    2. go to <user>/library/application support/Dreamweaver cs5/en_US/Configuration/DVADialogPrefs/

    3. delete or rename the file DVADialogPrefs.xml

    4. restart Dreamweaver

    5. presto!

This way, you don't need a backup of the Configuration folder so you don't lose your settings.

*just to be clear on this: the only acceptable solution is a fix by Adobe!

Mate I created a profile here, in order to log in and thank you for this advice.

    I bought CS5 today at a shop.

I did a whole heap of permission changes, and thankfully lost *only* 40 minutes, before stumbling onto this thread.

    Your fix worked a treat.

    Many many thanks.

    Hey All,

I ran into this same problem and wanted to post my solution which I haven't seen mentioned on here yet.

First of all, I want to give the background of my situation:

    • My OS: OS X  10.5.8 (I know, time to upgrade...)
    • FileVault Turned OFF (do not use filevault on this machine)
    • Dreamweaver CS5 had been working before.
    • Attempted all recommended solutions in this thread (*all of which seem to revolve around going to folders and changing permissions) as well as the official adobe page (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/844/cpsid_84413.html) to no avail.

    My Solution:

    1. I created a new user account with admin rights (same as my actual account)
    2. Logged into new account and confirmed dreamweaver  CS5 launched with no issues
    3. went to /Users/<new account>/Library/Application Support/Adobe
    4. Modified the permissions of "Dreamweaver CS5" folder to include  read/write privileges for my regular user account
    5. Logged out of new account and back into regular account
    6. went into finder and replaced the "Dreamweaver CS5" folder from /Users/<regular account >/Library/Application Support/Adobe  WITH the "Dreamweaver CS5"  from /Users/<new account>/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
This fixed my problem, and DW CS5 is back to working on my standard user account, hope it helps some people.
    Good Luck!

This problem might not be limited to FileVault.  But FileVault is definitely an issue.

I created a new user-account with administration privilege and FileVault OFF.  Dreamweaver CS5 launched properly with this account.  Deleted account.

I created a new user-account with administration privilege and FileVault ON.  Dreamweaver CS5 failed to launch with this account.  Deleted account.

Again I created a new user-account with administration privilege and FileVault OFF.  Dreamweaver CS5 launched properly with this account.

Unfortunately it is a requirement of the company I work for that FileVault be enabled on all workstations.

cayennecode, I have undertaken experiments like yours. Specifically, I created a new account on my Mac with FileVault not enabled, logged on to the new account, and found that Dreamweaver CS5 worked normally. Then, I enabled FileVault on the new account, logged on again to the new account, and found that Dreamweaver CS5 would not run. Then, I disabled FileVault on that account, logged on yet again, and found that Dreamweaver CS5 had reverted to normal operation.

GET WITH IT Adobe. At the very least post information stating whether you do or do not acknowledge this problem; and if you do, whether you are or are not working on a fix; and if you are, whether you estimate the time you'll need to develop and distribute a fix will be a day, a week, a month, or what.

    June 17, 2010

I just got off the phone with Adobe Tech support and was told that a fix for this is in development.  The representative would not comment on the timeframe but did say they were trying to fix this.

yeah well, as this problem rears its ugly head almost weekly, I have been able to determine a certain trend. Most often it happens when I return from my lunchbreak and wake up my Macbook. After waking up DW is down.

My procedure: I have a current configurations folder named "configuration-replace" which is a copy of a configurations folder of DW as I want it to function. after a crash I delete "configuration", copy "configuration-replace", rename the copy to "configuration" and restart DW. all is well again.

Of course, this cannot be a permanent solution, so I expect Adobe to provide a fix for this. Otherwise I will switch to Coda, as I use DW as a deLuxe code-editor anyway..

Still cannot open Dreamweaver CS5.  I uninstalled the trial, and installed from a Web Premium disc.  Same things happens.  OSX FileVault.  I can launch the app in newly created user account, but really don't have the time to setup a new primary account on the workstation.

I've been having the same problem on a PC with Vista.

If you're running an Acer machine, this fix works:

    http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.aspx

    Now running fine.

    THANK YOU!

... This worked for me also.

I'm running an Acer with Vista as well.

I can find /DVADialogPrefs/DVADialogPrefs.xml in that directory, should I reinstall?

I too have experienced this major flaw in Dreamweaver CS5 for the Macintosh: it absolutely will not run under a FileVault enabled account. (None of the other programs in the CS5 suite I bought has this flaw.) A reputable company will assign a top priority to fixing this flaw and will also announce prominently its schedule for doing so. We will see if Adobe satisfies this criterion for being reputable.

I have had some success and failures with this.

I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.3

    FileVault is not being used.

Non admin users with network home directories

Dreamweaver fails to launch as others described here. Changing file permissions on the network home directory did not work. But, forcing local home directory and modifying the locally created folders permissions did work. Creating a local non admin account worked as well. These are not acceptable solutions in our environment. We are a community college with teaching labs and require network based home directories.

We also had this problem with Acrobat 9 pro last year and had to revert to version 8. Hopefully Adobe resolves this problem soon.
