Dreamweaver (v21.2) can't connect to GoDaddy servers but FileZilla has no problem

I've used DW with GD servers successfully for years but haven't tried in over a year or so.

Just created new site - and DW just won't connect to the GD server - no matter which buttons are toggled, IP used instead of name. Times out.

FileZilla has no issues.

What is the solution? I really don't want to stop using DW for my sites from here forward.

What happens when you hit "Test Connection" in your FTP settings? Is that where it's timing out?

If so, try removing the root directory and testing again. Does the test connection work?

If it does, you may need to put a leading / in front of your root directory, or remove it if it's already there, or possibly put it before and after. Sometimes it's something that small.

GD's servers are extremely picky and the paid screen readers that make up their first level of Customer Support phone monkeys don't really know anything past what pops up when they type your question into their terminals.

You may just need to escalate to the next level of support, aka: the guys who actually know what the server wants from you.

Hi - I've tried it with the root, without and with a leading / and it all times out - yes on the Test.

But I've also just tried saving that and connecting from within the site and it still doesn't connect.

I just tried connecting with the leading / in the root from within the site and got a new error message. See below.

I did speak with a hosting guy yesterday. He said hardly anyone seems to be using DW at this point and he thought it was going to be discontinued. Is that true?

It's mostly used by people who have the Adobe suite bundle, but yes, it is in maintenance mode and does not have any new feature development planned.

That error you are receiving is not a time out.  That is a shared hosting error that too many people are connected to your server or their firewall is blocking DW this transfer and has something to do with DW specifically. I was able to search for other posts and it appears this is something they are doing that is impacting DW. https://community.adobe.com/t5/dreamweaver-discussions/dreamweaver-20-2-won-t-connect-to-godaddy-any-longer/td-p/11508592

Create a new Site Definition.  The one you have now is probably corrupted or the FTP log-in details are incorrect for your server.  See screenshot

Failing that, keep using FileZilla FTP client to transfer files.

The details I have in the site defnition are the same as I'm using in File Zilla so they're not incorrect.

My files transferred fine and the site is up. But I really think we should be able to transfer files using DW like we used to be able to. Is it just with GoDaddy servers?

I just created the site within DW so not sure how it can be corrupt...

Have you tried different protocols? For instance, since it's been awhile and you could have been using basic FTP, have you tried using FTPS/SFTP depending on what is available with your account?
