Question

continuous download of Flash Player

This has been going on for quite sometime and I've just never found any solution. On sites with Flash it asks me to download the player. I have the player already, but I download it anyway. The box on the Flash site shows that yes, I do have Flash installed now. Then I go back to the site that uses Flash and I'm back to the start - please download Flash Player.

I can't understand why if it's on my computer, why the site keeps asking me to download it again, yet it shows I do have it on my computer.

I started to use Macromedia Flash 8 Training from the Source, James English, and needed to play Flash in one of the tutorials. It sent me to the download site. I downloaded, shows the Flash movement in the sample box that if you have Flash you will see it in the box. I go back to the Flash site and once again - wants me to download Flash.

So it's just a continuous circle with no end.

Would anyone have ANY idea at all why something like this would happen? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't know what else to try.

Were you able to turn your security back on without it messing up the Flash program?

I'm using IE7 also, and AOL uses IE, so my Flash does not work in either one of those. It only works in Firefox, Opera, Netscape.

I use norton internet security. Turned it back on without affecting the flash player. Could view the all the sites. I only use IE7. I trialled firefox but it messed up my regional settings in the control panel and I couldn't amend it, once uninstalled everything worked fine. Why not select your prefered browser, uninstall the rest and download the flash player again.

I used to have the same problem but the following has sorted it for me and I am able to view all the sites that I couldn't before, especially you tube. I uninstalled the flash player as well as all the java programs I had. I then turned off my internet security and downloaded the lastest version of the flash player and it worked for me. With the internet security still turned off I downloaded the latest java application as well. It works fine now. If anyone is wondering I am using IE7. Hope this helps.

You may have found the solution to your problem. But, since I am new at this particular cite, I thought I would share what worked with me so that maybe it will help and work for others. The only thing that I know is that this did work for me. I was about to pull my hair out. Everything that I tried did not seem to work. I even had the technicians of my virus protection/firewall to help behind the scenes. And then I contacted Adobe for technical support who ended up directing me to the support / forums. I continued to read the posted messages along with the advice that was offered. Nothing seemed to work for me. Of course, I began to get aggrevated. But, there was one message that stuck out in my mind. That note informed that Flash Player was not Compatible with Internet Explorer - even though it referred to some other issue or problem. This seemed to make sense. So, let me tell you what worked for me. Again, it is IE that is causing all of the numerous problems with not being able to download Flash Player, etc. I am not sure of what has changed with Flash Player now that may be causing this particular issue, but. . . So, I decided to go to another web browser - like Netscape because on one occasion, I was having great difficulty with IE and the technicians downloaded Netscape. I had no more problems with Netscape, but of course, I like IE. So, I eventually went back to IE and never thought about Netscape again, until now. I went to Netscape (with all of the issues at hand) and decided to see if I could view many of the cites that were provided in the Forums. Well, much to my surprise, all of the web pages that required Flash Player seemed to work automatically - but only in Netscape. I did not even have to download Flash Player while in Netscape. See if this works for you and pass it own to everyone if you have success. Some of you may need to download the Flash Player while in Netscape, but I did not. Good luck. I am so happy that something FINALLY worked. Maybe it will work for you too and do not forget to pass it on - if it does happen to work for you also. 2byoung

And it's definitely an Internet Explorer and Flash problem, because I viewed this page in Opera, Firefox, and Netscape and it's fine. But it's NOT fine in IE and AOL (which uses IE for its browser).

So it's definitely an issue with IE and Flash -- one that "never used to be" but now is for some reason.

    Windows Internet Explorer ONLY

If you are having an issue installing the Flash Player with Windows Internet Explorer, but you can install it with other browsers on the same machine, you may have a damaged system registry or incorrect permissions in the registry:

To find out more about this issue, see Troubleshooting the system registry issues that prevent Flash Player installation (TechNote 400116)

    PLEASE READ THIS FIRST

Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Editing or manipulating the registry incorrectly can result in serious system damage which may require re-installation of the operating system. If you are not comfortable editing the registry, then take your system to a professional. If you choose to proceed, then it is essential that you create a complete system backup and a Windows System Restore Point before proceeding. I will definitely read that; however, I do use Registry Pro which "supposedly" finds errors to the registry and repairs them. And of course I don't show any errors to my registry. But I will read the information and see if it's something that may help.

    Thanks

Okay, see how many of you can get the video on this site without it asking for the latest version Flash player to view. I couldn't! I'm back to square one! Isn't that just the pits!

It works for me. The music quits a few seconds before the video finishes though, but that may be by design.

Removing Real Player worked for a while, but the problem has returned. I cleared everything I could think of, ran SpyBot, RegCure, AdAware, Windows Defender, and McAfee Virus Scan to try to find whatever is causing the problem. But, came up empty. I still do not have Real installed but the problem persists. It sure would be reassuring if we could hear something form Adobe Support..... if not an immediate fix, just the fact that they are aware of the problem...... If anyone has overcome the problem, please post what you did.

Solving problems with flash in IE by simply not using IE is not really a
solution. You might as well suggest that the answer is simply not to use
    Flash Player at all.

This sounds like yet another anti-microsoft-er or firefox fanatic trying to
show that Firefox is superior. Its not really .. its just different with
different sets of features and different sets of problems.

    > Booooooo to Flash and Booo to Adobe.

    Sounds like a boo-boo

Please, don't discount solutions as LAME LAME LAME simply because they do
not apply to your particular case. You may well have a different problem to
the other people in this thread who have reported success. Please .. act a
    little less childish.

Flash player activex hooks itself into the IE browser. If there is a
problem with the borwse, or other plugins, or the operating system, they can
all impact on whether the player works or not. Flash Player in itself is
pretty good .. the problems are with what happens when you attempt to
install it in an operating system that may already have problems (eg
    viruses, malware, conflicting applications).

And uninstall and reinstall of the brwoser may indeed help.

Also going back to an older version of Flash player (if you can get it
working) is a good start .. as from there you may be able to reinstall a
later player and have success a second time.

Those damned spouses .. getting between a man/woman and their flash :)
