Flash 9 Installed but not detected

I have installed flash player 9 on my computer. according to adobe's website it's installed however any time i go to a website requiring flash it says that i need to download flash player 9. i have tried to uninstall and reinstall several times yet the same symptoms occur. the weird thing is that there are two user accounts on my computer. one of them has no problem with flash and the other account does. i've tried setting up a new user account to see if flash would work on another account and it will not. all of the user accounts have administrator rights. i am really confused at this point and don't know what else to try. i am also running ie7 and this problem didn't start until i downloaded ie7. it seems that there are a lot of people out there having trouble with flash 9 and ie7. i have tried to email adobe about the issue but i have not heard back from them. does anyone have any suggestions. thanks for your help in advance!

I just restored my system to an earlier time. I think this is the best way to solve the issue if it is possible. Since the restore everything is fine and I will be more careful before updating any Adobe software in the future. I must say, I am very disappointed. I expected better from Adobe.

If the ActiveX Control for Flash Player fails to install, download the executable installer.

If the information above has not resolved the issue, download the executable Flash Player installer here:

    * Download and unzip Install_Flash_Player_9_ActiveX.zip.

Save this installer to your desktop, close out all applications, and run the installer. This may help if you are having trouble with the ActiveX installation from Adobe.com. To confirm that Flash Player has installed successfully, please visit: www.macromedia.com/software/flash/about/. EVERYONE DO THIS THIS WORKS

SOLUTION!! GRW999 hit this one on the head of the nail already... don't waste your time with most of these fixes... the fix is to go here: start/run(search on vista)/system32/macromed/flash and run "flashutil9d" or whatever version you have. Simple, effective fix for a multi-week problem for me. Thank you GRW!!

    Yeah, This Works.
This is the player I had mentioned above that I got from Reproman.
His link is to the page where it is listed.
This is quicker for everyone as it is the program itself.

    http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi

This way you won't have to go through a couple pages before finding the link.
    Thaks troy!
Oh, which IE do you have? 7 or 6?
It worked for me on IE 6. So if it works on IE7 it helps even more persons with this problem.

Hey! This really works! I had the exact same problem and even my consultant can't fix it.
I just use troy's link and download the file.
    1. Go to WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash and find uninstaller
    2. After you run uninstaller the "Flash" folder should disappear itself...if not, you manually delete it
    3. Install the flash player again with the file you download from adobe http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi

Don't even need to restart the computer! It just worked!
    Thank you, Troy!

This worked perfectly. There were actually 2 uninstall programs, but it definitely fixed the problem w/ IE7.0.
    Thank you!!!

I did everything you said, but it still didn't work. I did see that Active X for Flash Player 9 was now listed in my Programs and Features in Control Panel, but when I went to ESPN.com, all I got was the same old white box with the "movie
not loaded" message when I right-clicked on the box.

Then, I got to thinking about a link on that download page. It was for a registry cleaner. I checked it out, but its not much more than an ad for their product.
But. I Googled free registry cleaners for Vista and downloaded one I found from
the PC World site. I ran it and voila! I have Flash content now for the first time in
over 2 months. If you have been receiving corrupt file or registry notices, you really need to run a registry cleaner before you can get Flash back.

    SOLUTION FOR MACINTOSH -this works!

    1-uninstall flash player (if applicable)
2-Go to the "Disk Utility" (Applications>utilities). Select the volume on your left and click on "Repair Disk Permissions."
    3-reinstall flash player

Trust me, this works like a charm. If not, try restarting in between steps.
    Bonne chance!
