Flash Player 9 problem

After installing Flash Player 9 successfully (according to Adobe install page), sites that are asking for it to play content are still asking for it, as if it was not installed. I'm using IE7, and player is listed in 'Add-Ons' and enabled. Have also tried installing the Flash Player a second time.
This is on a laptop running Vista Home Premium.
Can anyone help?
Thanks very much in advance.

Looks like Adobe is in way over their heads with this mess. When they took over Macromedia, I'll bet nobody envisioned this kind of fiasco. Titanic disaster is what it is. Everyone should email their favorite websites and let them know how futile this company's efforts are in resolving these issues. I've been without flash player for over a month now, with no fix on the horizon.

Nothing works to resolve this confounding an annoying problem. I've spent about two hours of my admittedly picayune existence trying to look at a weather map that only works with Adobe Flash, which simply will not work in my computer. I have followed the advice of many of the fine volunteers who attempted to fix the problem, alas nothing. Volunteering to fix the problem is commendable, but Is anybody at Adobe reading these plaintive threads of desperation?

This is how I got Flash to work after months of Flash breakdown.
first I set Internet security to medium and gave permission fto all active x, except un signed. controls. Then follow the belowJell225 from 11/15 also mhb2 was correct in the post od 11/15. My flash works fine now.

    I had success with this.

    Go to:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

Select the proper uninstaller program for Flash based on your operating system.

    Then go here:

    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

    And reinstall the player.

Have now tried what Jeff225 suggests but with exactly the same results as my earlier method. From what I can see there seem to be so very many methods being used by which websites detect the existance of Flash Player that it is highly unlikely that any one fix will be universal. Presumably this is why Adobe are being less than forthcoming with advice, let alone a proper fix.

    Hi all

None of the solution above worked for me! So, I continued reading anything and everything availible on the subject. I definately read something about a conflict with CS3 somewhere and I'm sure it what cause my Flash Player to stop working so suddenly.

Anyway, after trawling through yet more tech notes and trying to filter out the some of the usual tech support waffle, I found something useful that I hadn't already tried. I'm alway so grateful to find solutions to my problems on these forums, so I've tried my best to retrace my steps and post it all here in the hope I can help some other people....

[Bookmark this page first so you can get back to it if you need to]

    1) Firstly, I removed the non-functioning Flash Player files with the removal tool

    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402435&sliceId=1),for

    2) Reboot! Not sure if it achieved anything, but may unload some left over DLLs?

    3) Follow the instructions here to the letter BUT ignore the suggestion in the 'Issue' section to first look at "How to fix almost all Flash Player issues", as it is just reiterates what most of us have already, unsuccessfully, tried. Also, I ignored step 10, see below.

    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=fb1634cb&sliceId=1

    4) After running reset_minimal.cmd, using Windows Defender's process explorer and Task Manager, I quit every non-essential process running, then quit Defender as well in case it was blocking anything from loading/installing

    5) Finally, I went to the version checker page. I was expecting it to just tell me Flash wasn't installed - this is what I wanted, as I wanted to know it had been completely removed. However, what I actually got, after a pause, was a report that I was running v9.0.47.0! (Previous visits to this page to varify my Flash version hadn't worked at all)

What I assume has happened is that the version checker its self is obviously Flash based app. As I had nothing installed, but a clean registry and all remiments of previous installs removed, IE silently (due to my security settings - most people would probably get the prompt to install the ActiveX component) reinstalled the Flash Player again - this time successfully! I have since varified the install by successfully viewing youtube videos and flash content on my own websites!

I hope this makes sense to everyone and that it might hopefully help those still banging their heads against the wall!

    Good luck! Js

So..........if I'm getting this right, this method is for XP only. According to the Microsoft site, the SubInAcL tool is not for Vista.
Do we have a fix for Flash Player 9 with Vista?
I'm very surprised that Adobe hasn't addressed this problem, with so many users affected.

This solution seems to have worked for me with Vista. All Flash sites are now working.
In Windows Explorer, navigate to Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash. Right click on the file 'FlashUtil9d.exe' and select 'Run as Administrator'. Whether you are logged on as an admin. doesn't matter. It will then install without having to change any security or permissions settings.
If you have multiple entries of this file, make sure you have selected the latest version (9.0.47.0) by right-clicking and selecting 'Properties', and choosing the 'Details' tab.
Hopefully, this will help some Vista users.

I hoping some of the fixes I've found on here work for me as I'm suffering from what appears to be the same issue; Flash 9 will not install on IE7 XP SP2

Yesterday Flash just appeared to stop working - No Youtube, nothing. I can't even view some of my own websites! IE prompts to install Flash Player, I allow it proceed, all seems to go well then... nothing. I refresh the page and I either get the same prompt and/or the red crosses indicating that content hasnt loaded properly. On the Flash install website, again I'm prompted to install. I proceed and get the the 'F' icon with the scrolling white/green status bar beneath it. But, when it completes, rather than seeing the 'installation successful' flash movie, it just hangs for a moment - then nothing. I refresh the page and the process starts all over again.

Flash doesnt show up in the manage-add ons dialogue in IE, even though I've downloaded the manual install .exe file from Adobe. I also downloaded the uninstall app to clean-up old/corrupt install, then ran the installer. Everything seems to run ok, load IE, go to youtube, it doesnt work! "I either have java disabled or an old version of flash and need to upgrade"?!

Fingers crossed, some of the ideas listed here might work for me but out of interest, how many people here have CS3 installed? I've had major installation issues with this as well and finally got it working last night. I'm wondering if this problem with Flash is somehow connected with my CS3 issues.
