How can I stop flashwave and/or shockwave from using so much cpu and memory. One or the other of them runs amok

Seems like lots of people have this problem but no one can find a solution.  Have tried all the tool stuff.  Extensions, plug ins, ad nauseum.  Can't even get rid of this cripple of a software.  What is wrong with the people at Adobe?  Don't they know about this problem?  Why can't they fix it?  Is this the best this huge company has to offer?
