Adding New Headings

I'm sure this has been covered on here but I can't find what I'm looking for. That's a newbie for ya. Anyway I'm trying to figure out how to new headings that will also show up in the TOC. Currently I have Chapters with Head1, Head2 etc. (1-1, 1-2-1).

I need to add "Sections" that will be Roman numeral sequentially within chapters. So Chapter 1 may have SECTION I. TITLE

SECTION II. TITLE

SECTION III. TITLE

etc.

Thanks much.

    Hi @JDLUnmanned:

It sounds like you already have your Titles, Heading1s and Heading2s set up and working?

I'm not clear on how the Section numbers relate to the existing numbers—or are they independent? A screen shot would help.

Building on @FrameMaker-dk's answer, you will accomplish this with a new paragraph style, (i.e., Section), the Roman numeral building blocks he is showing you and the word Section added at the beginning:

    Section <R+> for example.

I just can't tell what to do with the series label though, until we see how the section styles are being used, and if you need to restart the section numbers manually or if it can be automatic.

Right click the TOC document in the book file and choose Set up table of contents. The dialogue will look something like this>

Add the Section levels, which should be in the right window of the dialogue box.

That is.... if I have understood your question 🙂

Sorry for my late response. Been away a few days. Yes this worked perfectly. May I ask how to get the sections to autonumber with Roman numerals in the paragraph designer? Thanks much.

Great! Good to hear!. Regarding roman numbering. In the book file under the Chapters tab you have this option

This will allow you to use other numbering properties on certain chapters. Highlight teh chapters which are to have roman numbering  and right click Numbering in the book file.
