Alternative automatic numbering

Hello!

I have a question regarding automatic numbering. FrameMaker 2019 has preset Building Blocks for automatic numbering (such as <n+>, <a+>, <R+> and so on).

Is it possible to organize a different type of automatic numbering (for example, using Cyrillic letters)?

With respect, Igor.

Thank you all for your answers!

It looks like my problem is unsolvable.

Waiting for the Cyrillic version. 🙂

I would expect you'd need a Cyrillic version of FrameMaker to use those numbering streams automatically.

Unfortunately, these appear to be the only versions available.

    Hi Igor,

    That's a good question!

I use the Google font Open Sans, which has characters for Western and Eastern European languages. When I set <a=1> to e.g. <a=200>, then it starts with gr. The numbering does not switch to characters of other languages.

Possibly you can create a character format with a font with only cyrillic characters. Then use this for your numbering.

    Best regards, Winfried

Although later FM's have added more numbering Format options for Paragraphs, none provide the ability to define arbitary glyph sequences as far as I know.

Oddly, Footnotes do have the ability [Custom] to have arbitrary sequences. With some effort this can be gamed (via xref) to make body paras appear to be using that numbering.
