Hi,

In my company has FrameMaker2017 version, but I have a FrameMaker 2020 documents as a template. I try to open templates in 2017 but the error message appears:  Although this appears to be a framemaker document, it can't be opened...

Is there any way to open 2020 document by using 2017 version.

PS: I do not have any other version of FrameMaker, only 2017.

No. Not MIF 7.0! Just MIF 2020. When you open this file with FrameMaker 2017, FrameMaker will ignore all features which it does not support.

MIF is a text file, and the very first line lists the FrameMaker version which was used.

MIF 7.0 was the last version before FrameMaker supported Unicode. That's not needed here.

    Hi,

    No way!

The FrameMaker 2020 document must be saved as a MIF 7.0 and opened in FrameMaker 2017. You will loose features of FM 2020 in this conversion.

But this must be made with FM 2020. If you does not have it, I can do the canversio for you. If you agree, I can send my e-mail in private.

Another option, you can use the FrameMaker 2020 trial version.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards

    Hi all,

    the Winfried answer is correct!

I saved a file as a MIF 2020 file and opened it with FM 2019. So, I believe it can also be opened with FM 2017.
