Any tool similar to the Clean Import Tool?

Hi,

Is there any tool (FrameMaker plug-in) similar to the Clean Import tool that enables you to import a FM new template to an existing book and map tags to the new template tags? And also, delete the old template tags and not append to the existing tags.

Is the Clean Import tool available for download now?

Thanks!

Rick Quatro, of Carmen Publishing (Carmen Publishing Inc. Store ) sells a script called FindChangeFormatsBatch, that will do what you want.

It takes a bit of setup, but the included scripts take care of most of it.

Essentially, you run one script to create a file that lists every single format (character, paragraph, and table), variable, condition, reference, and master page in your document in a table. You map all the ones you want to rename in the next column, and the next column you specify if you want the old format deleted. If you have a format that you just want deleted, leave the rename column blank but still specify you want the format deleted. Then run the next script, which does all the work.

He has very clearly written instructions (I'm paraphrasing MASSIVELY) on how to do this. I've been using this for about 6 months as I slowly update older documentation to new formats and layouts, and it works perfectly.

Because these are scripts, they are not installed in either of the program files directories, so you won't run into issues with write permissions.

I love the Clean Import plug-in. It really comes in handy when updating to new templates. However, I've been upgraded to FM2019 and have learned that my plug-in does't work because it is 32-bit and I'm running the 64-bit version of FM2019.

The clean import plug-in was created by ElectroPubs back in 2006 as far as I can tell. I believe they have since gone out of business. Does anyone know if there is a comparable plug-in available for 64-bit compatibility?

    Fingers crossed,

    Wendy
