Question

Automatic numbering list

Hello guys,

Do I always have to create a different format for the first number (1) and letter (a) different from the seconds?

Ex:

a:\t(<a=1>)\t      I have created this one to have (a)

a:\t(<a+>)\t        I have created this one to have (b)

When I have to update the style I need to change both, I was wondering if there is an automatic way so I can update them at once?

Thank you 🙂

If you know that the numbered list will ALWAYS, without exception, follow a tag in general use, such as Body, you can use the autonumber field in that tag (Body) to reset the numbering list.

So Body would have: a:\t< =0>\t

And your list would have a:\t<a+>\t

And you wouldn't need two tags for the list. However, you will always need a tag somewhere that resets the numbering unless you override the numbering of the first item in the list everytime you start one. That's doable, but I find it to be a PITA and besides, its not good practice to be introducing overrides all the time. If you're doing that, you need a new tag to handle that situation since it's common.

Also bear in mind that if you have the tag you use to reset the numbering in between items in the list, your list would start renumbering again.
