Question

Automatically adding conditional tag to existing conditional text

My apologies if this question has already been asked but searching the forums produced no results.

I have created a suite of manuals which encompass three contracts, hence three different conditional tags.  I now have to add a fourth conditional tag for another contract.  Some of this text will be added manually and the conditional tag applied manually, however a lot (but not all) of this text will be identical to the text added for our third contract.

Is there a way to automatically apply my fourth conditional tag to any text to which the third conditional tag has already been applied without removing any conditional tags already applied to the text?

I am aware that I can use find and replace to apply conditional tags but this sounds like it could be fairly complex given that some of the text will have a combination of tags already applied.

Many thanks.

    What specific version of FM?

How much "automatic" do you need?

If Windows, this could almost certainly be done with a Framescript; the script could find the existing target condition text, wait for user input to apply (or not apply) the new conditional tag, then jump to the next target, and/or do the whole document in one step.  More info about Framescript at http://www.framescript.com and on the FS user group on Yahoo

Alternatively, I believe there are some 3rd party utilities that specifically assist with managing conditional content, although your requirements sound like they might be more complex than most utilities would be able to handle. You might find them on the Leximation tool list, at http://www.leximation.com

... but searching the forums produced no results.

    How searched?

The built-in search that the forum provides is broken.

You need to use an external search engine.

    For Google:

    http://www.google.com/advanced_search?&hl=en
all these words: framemaker (plus your AND terms)
Search within a site or domain: forums.adobe.com

    other fields as desired.

Thank you for your response but I have already searched via Google which produced no relevant results.
