Autonumbering not incrementing

I am using an autonumber format that is not incrementing the n variable within the same file. The autonumber format is F : Figure <$chapnum>-<n+> \sn. The first instance numbers properly, to wit: Figure 2-1. A second instance of the paragraph style delivers Figure 2.1 again. It appears that the n value is not getting updated. I have made sure that the paragraph numbering property is set to “Continue numbering from Previous Paragraph in Book” and I have updated the book innumerable times.

This is happening with all numbering series: F for Figures, T for Tables.

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks in advance...
Bill

The problem appears to be disconnected pages. The § in the figure titles is the tip-off. They are both Flow Tag “I” and might just need to be connected.

    Hi Bill,

Are you very sure that there aren’t any paragraphs with such an F numbering property between your first instance and the second?

Can you do a test and make a copy of your file, delete everything and only enter some instances of your numbered paragraph? Are these incremented?

If yes, then copy some of the paragraphs from the original file and paste them between your numbered paragraphs and check, when the numbering changes.

    Best regards, Winfried

    Hi Winfried,
The two instances of the F numbering property are immediately adjacent.

In the test you proposed, the numbered paragraphs did not increment.

I attached an expunged copy of the problem file down below.

Thank you for looking at this!

Not sure if it’s just the way you typed your post, but you have extra spaces:

    F : Figure

    Should be:

    F:Figure

Can you copy and paste the exact Numbering Format from the Paragraph Designer?
