Best VM to run FM 11 on OS X

Hi all,

I use a MacBook Pro for work and in my down time, I'd like to be able to do some assignments for my FrameMaker class. I found a few guidelines for running FM on a Mac, but I couldn't seem to get any of them working.

So for the Mac users out there, which VM do you suggest for running FM 11 on OS X? I'd like to run FM within OS X, without having to dual boot or boot into Windows.

Thanks!

P.S. -- I apologize if this has already been asked.

What Mike K. said. Just to clarify, though, you only need to launch Parallels (or VMware's Fusion, etc.) once, launch Windows inside it. Then, you can switch into any running Windows or Mac application, with a keystroke. In Mac preferences, you can set the virtual software to start when you log into your Mac. IIRC, you can even set FrameMaker to launch at Mac startup.

    HTH

    Regards,

    Peter

I have used Parallels and FrameMaker for years without issue. I have tried to use Virtual Box on a University provided laptop. It appears to work ok, but I find Parallels much easier for me to use. It may be just a matter of muscle memory. Just understand, that you cannot avoid booting into Windows. You boot into Windows from the Virtual Machine while running Mac OS X. I have several friends that run Frame under Paralels as well. I can recommend it without reservation. Just be sure you have enough RAM and hard disk Space. I recommend a machine 8 GB RAM with 4 for Windows. The faster and more memory your machine has the better your experience in running Windows and Frame.
