Bug in tab stop settings? Frame 9

Hallo,

I have a problem with tab stops. I can set a tab with the mouse in the ruler, but I can't set one in the tab format window (or rather Paragraph-formatting-window). After entering the tab-properties and clicking "continue" the window just closes and no tab ist created. Existing tabs cannot be edited either.

Its the German version of FrameMaker 9 under Windows.

Any ideas?

    Have you patched your version to the latest release (FM 9.0p250, a.k.a FM 9.0.3)?

    There are some odd interactions with the ruler and tab-stop settings and the Paragraph designer in FM9. If you detach the Paragraph designer from the panels at the side, it tends to behave a bit more (but it is still not completely reliable).

    Another issue reported by Shlomo Perets (see: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2738532#2738532  ) suggests that if you set the paragraph designer to the "Basic" tab first, and only then adjust the tabs on the ruler, it should behave.

    I have the same problem in FM 2015. Using the ruler to set the tabs did work however.

    Just one thing to add to this workaround: I found that when using the ruler to set the tabs, increasing the zoom to 1600% helped me set the tabs to an exact value.

    Sierra,

    When you click Continue, you will see the tabs created in the Tab Stops list; but they have not been added to the paragraph. To do that, you need to click Apply in the paragraph designer. If you want your tab stops to apply to all paragraphs with that paragraph tag, click Update All.

    Hallo Van,

    I don't get that far. The tab stop is not being created in the first place. The window just closes and nothing happened. If I set a tab stop with the mouse, I see it in the paragraph designer, but its impossible to edit.

    Its not a problem with the document either. When I create a brand new blank document I can create exactly ONE tab, which is then impossible to edit. I can't create a second tabstop either.

    Just now it worked after 5 minutes, then I got the message "This step can not be undone." and nothing works...

    I think its time for the weekend.

    Sierra,

    I never create tab stops in the ruler, so I tried it; and it works. I created a blank document and then inserted several tabs on the ruler; be sure to click in the thin white space below the ruler tick marks; clicking the tick mark area does not appear to work. The tabs should then be listed in the Tab Stops list in the paragraph designer.

    To edit a tab stop in the paragraph designer, select the one you want to edit in the list (that is, click on it), then click Edit. In the edit dialog, make your changes and click Continue. NOW in the paragraph designer, click Apply; this last step is necessary to apply your changes to the paragraph settings.

    You can also edit the tabs in the ruler by dragging them.

    So, my FrameMaker is behaving as it should. If yours does not work according to the procedures listed above, I am at a loss. Maybe others might have an answer.
