Question

Can 2020 be installed with 2017 without issues?

We are planning to do some investigations into FrameMaker 2020 before upgrading from 2017. Can we have an instance of 2020 installed on the same machine as 2017 without conflict? Or would we need a dedicated machine/Virtual Machine?

In general, yes, for different major releases.

I have FM2019 & FM2020 on the same machine & Windows10 instance. I even have separate icons on the desktop for them (with the caption text edited to show the point release#. I also have Acrobat Pro DC installed.

Just make sure you have an install image or other install media handy for your production version, in case there is any conflict between shared components, or any need to re-install 2017 at the end of the evaluation.

Hi James,

You can install FrameMaker 2020 on a PC with FM 2017. No problem.

I have this myself.

When you double-click an FM file, then the last installed FrameMaker version will be opened.

Best regards
