can creating a stand alone Table of Contents Alter Text and do other weird formatting things within your document. i dindt have any problems before i tryed to do a stand alone table of contents

    It's going to create cross-reference markers at the sources of the generated ToC entries, so strictly speaking, it does modify the source file(s).
