Can't Open Application

I was working in Structured FrameMak

er, trying to save a file, and I suddenly got a message that the file name extention had changed.

The message said the file was going to be saved in my temp file. Well, I just clicked OK, as I had never seen this message before. Now, I can't open any of my FrameMaker files

, because it automatically locks them, and won't let me in. Has anybody seen this error before?

Hi Chef,

FM gives you this error when it can't save a file for some reason. Usually it tries to save some kind of backup instead with a weird extension. I've never tried to open one of those so I don't know what value they have.

However, you should not be locked out of your other files, or even the original file that failed to save. Did Frame crash? If so, did it leave any LCK files laying around?  When you say it "locks you out," does that mean you absolutely cannot open the files, no matter what?

Thank you so much, Russ, for your response. Yes, that's correct, I was totally unable to open any FrameMaker files, and I wasn't even able to open the application itself. When I clicked a file, it would create a .lck file and that's it. It wouldn't open. Very frustrating when you use FrameMaker as your primary document authoring system. . . .

Anyway, I was able to get the issue taken care of. You were on the right track. It was an issue with the .lck files that, as you know, FrameMaker creates when you open a file. A co-worker of mine had the same problem. She told me to delete all the .lck FrameMaker files and then launch FrameMaker from an icon on my desktop. It worked, and I've been able to open files directly since.

Thanks again for reaching out to help. I appreciate it.
