Question

Can we generate interactive PDF from FrameMaker?

Hi

I have Tech Comm Suite 4.0.

I am creating a FrameMaker document where I want to add screenshots to supplement some of the steps. The intended audience comprises both who don't need the screenshots as they are familiar with the UI and those who cannot understand the procedure without those screenshots.

I tried using the Drop Down Caption and Body features of RoboHelp menu (within FrameMaker). But when I generate the PDF, I don't get the interactivity.

Is there a way I can make these screenshots optional? The final output will be PDF.

Thanks

Sreekanth

Shlomo Perets TimeSavers + MultiMedia assistant would allow you to control this feature from FM. Here's an example of what you seem to want:

    Hi

I am looking for a expand / collapse feature.

For example, after the step 4, I will have the text "Click here to view the screenshot of these settings.". When the user clicks that text, the screenshot shows up below this instruction. (similar to Drop down text feature in RoboHelp outputs).

Generally speaking, PDF uses a printed page metaphor, so expand/collapse is not easily incorporated.

you can always make the screenshots conditional and filter them as "print-only" or "pdf" so they don't get into RH; I think to do the sort of interactive thing you describe, you need some after-market tools like Timesavers (Shlomo Perets' thing)

It sounds like you would like a pop-up window in the PDF. And that you'd like to create the pop-up using something in Fm.

I don't know of a way to do this without post-processing the PDF file, perhaps others have a better idea.
