Cannot figure out how to create a variable for two paragraph styles

I have two paragraph tags/styles named Title and Subtitle.

I cannot figure out how to create a custom variable with the correct syntax for each. 😞

I want to put them in the header of each master page.

A more brute-force method is to create two variables, each containing just the raw text for the Title & Subtitle (and no other formatting or mark-up), and use those to populate both the various title pages, and the Master Page header/footers.

I think I will try that, Thanks!

Yet another method is that header/footer MP content can also be Cross-References, perhaps in this case to title page content, format <$paratext>.
That will, however, create hypertext links to the source page, which you may or may not desire.

If there were only one way to do it, it wouldn't be FM.

If I understand what you intend, FM has a feature specifically for that:
    Insert » Variables… » Running H/F #
🖉 edit var to designate para picked up

What does not work? What do you see in the header?

Do you have a paragraph with this format in your body page?
