Question

Contents of cell not vertically centered

I’m trying to vertically align the text in my table cells so that it is centered but can’t seem to figure out why it is slightly off set. I believe I have my paragraph designer set correctly and my cell padding is the same all around in the table designer but you can see that table contents are still ever so slightly higher than center. This is a problem for cells with more contents as they run into the cell borders. I can manually adjust the cell padding so that there is more on top than the bottom but that’s more of a work around than a proper solution.

FrameMaker measures the distance from the descenders (g, j, p, q , y). Since most words don’t have descenders or just one or two, it looks off. I usually cut the bottom in half from the other sides.

Generally, I start with Cell Padding Top, Right, and Left at 4 points, and Bottom at 2 points. Unless you have exceptions for certain paragraphs, it’s best to start with your Cell Padding settings.
