Cross-reference formats will not import

Hello. I am trying to import a cross reference format from one chapter to many. First I go to the book and select all the chapters that I want to receive the format. Then I go to the import feature and deselect all but "Cross reference formats." At that point I choose "Current document" as the source.  When I hit the Import button the program gives a little blip as if it's doing something, but when it's finished I find that the cross reference format is still not imported into any of the chapters. 

What am I missing here?
