Question

Debating on buying FrameMaker/Need to see if it will fit my need and be worth the cost

I would like to send someone a pdf file and for them to tell me if FrameMaker can match the structure and layout of the document. Also, I need to know if it will export 11x17 paper format and what that will do to exporting to other formats as well. Dazzle Me! Because I think FrameMaker could really revolutionize what I'm doing. I'm the author of the Parts Manuals at the company I work at and I really want to bring them into the 21st century. Thanks in advance.

You could post a few screen captures here (use the camera icon in the forum interface) to give everyone an idea of what kind of layout you're expecting.

You can create any size PDF up to 216x216 inches, as well as publish to ePub, Kindle, responsive HTML5, WebHelp and MS HTML Help formats. If you buy the TechComm Suite, you can get up to 17 output formats utilizing the linkage to RoboHelp.

If your content comes from a database, then there are third-party tools to help automate the publishing process that can create catalogs and parts manuals in minutes.

You can always download the trial version and use it for 30 days. It is fully functional with no limitations.

Here is one of the 1 page Figures from our Parts Manual. I'm also wondering if item numbers can be linked to callouts in the illustration and how that will work as far as updating and changing item numbers on the fly. Thanks Arnis for your prompt reply and any more help you can give me.

FM supports hotspots in graphics and the item numbers can be linked to parts tables (and vice versa). There have been scripts developed to automate a large portion of this.

There are a few blog entries on FM's handling of graphics that might provide more info. See:

There's also more info on the rich graphics support that was introduced with FM11 in the FM11 Reviewer's Guide available at:
