Hi,

I have framemaker 12 and i'd like to do different page numbers in the same document. Example, in the same document I want:

Chapter 1.1= page numbers 1.1-1, 1.1-2........to 1.1-X

Chapter 1.2= page numbers 1.2-1, 1.2-2.......to 1.2-X

Now, I have two solutions:

1) Two different Master Pages

2) Continuity Page numbers. Example:

Chapter 1.1=page numbers 1.1-1, 1.1-2......to 1.1-X

Chapter 1.2=page numbers 1.2-(X+1)....

So, Can I have different page numbers in the same document with the same Master Page?

thanks for the answers

You can multiply the number of Master pages and use (optionally) a heading level to apply a specific Master page, but I'm not sure how you'd handle restarting page numbering within a single file. [I shall watch this thread to see what people who know more contribute to the discussion] You'll have more flexibility in your numbering options if you manage chapters as separate files.

My personal preference would be for continuous page numbers – easier for the reader to perceive as 'how far through the book do I need to be' – in the footer and a chapter ID in the header: a completely different question, except that you could use a top-level heading for your chapter title and include this information with a running H/F variable.
