I receive documents made from framemaker 16 and saved as .fm when I go to open them on mine with version 11 it tells me ...appears to be a Framemaker document, it can't be opened with this release of product... is there a way to open such document without telling the person to safe it as .MIF

Your help is very appreciated.

Unfortunately not. Saving as MIF or (with a script) saving in a lower version can only be done in the version in which the doc was created. Saving "one level down" can be done in any FM version - but only MIF can be opened in any lower version (observing the FM-8 Unicode / FM-7 non-Unicode border.

Rich Quatro has.a plug-in to save to lower levels, also my plugin SaveAsOldVersion can do this. Rick's plug-in is more universal.

    Dear Mr. Daube

Thanks for your reply, if I understood you well. There is no way to solve the issue unless its not saved as MIF. Do you know maybe if there is a converter to convert from FM to MIF?

Yes - you just do a Save As MIF in FM.
