Document Repositories does not save work

I am working in a document repository connected to SharePoint online. I select Checkout and Edit, work on my document, save (continuously), Checkin the document and everything seems to be working fine.  That is until I go back to the file and half my changes, if I’m lucky, are not there. More often, nothing is saved. This is the third time I have tried to create a document and it’s now beyond frustrating.  So what am I doing wrong?

I haven’t worked in FrameMaker in over a decade so go easy on me :-)

    Hi,
are you using FrameMakers SharePoint online connector? We do not use it, instead we sync our FrameMaker SharePoint Repository to the local computers of the writers. Although syncing is some time a bit slow, so we avoid to work on the same file by different writers. Up to now it is working fine.
If you are also syncing, check that OneDrive is up and running correctly.
    Best regards, Thomas

    Hi,

I can understand that this is really irritating! You said that this happened now the third time. Does this mean that there are also other files which you process which are saved correctly?

Is the folder with these files in a certain location?

    Do you work with DITA?

Did the file already exist and you worked on it? Or were these new files?

Sorry that I do not have good idea.

    Best regards, Winfried

    Hi,

No, I tried to work on the file, save it, closed it and reopened it to find changes were not saved. I thought it was something I did so I tried again. And again. It was a new document.

As for DITA, I am still trying to wrap my head around that. It was a loooooong time ago and the brain cells are rusty. I was trying to work with structured files but I don’t think I am too successful.

And are the files actually being checked out to be worked on locally on your hard drive?

Ann_DAS: …  I select Checkout and Edit, work on my document, save (continuously) …

I’m not an SP user (and never used FM with a ‘cloud’ any more complicated than ZFS on Unix), but I’m a bit unclear on the process here (and anyone who is SP-savvy might also need to know)…

Are you opening the file in FM on SP, or are you checking-out to to a local file?
That is to say, where is the FM Save being done / to where?

    Hi,

After checking, thank you, it seems that the files are being saved locally, though I can’t seem to figure out how, why or how to correct this. I opened the repository and checked out the files there thinking I was working on SharePoint so that could be part of the issue. For now, I am going to work locally and then upload to SP when they are done.

I believe that’s how it’s supposed to work - you don’t edit files in the SP repo, you check them out to your local drive and the check-in process copies them back into the repo.

Not a tremendous number of forum-folk that are using SP online - what version of FM are you using?

    Hi,

I have the latest version 17. It’s too bad; I was really hoping to use SP as a collaborative platform for our document creation.
